It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Adelene Bertha Hockett on January 23, 2021 at the age of 96 years old at the Fairview General Hospital surrounded by her family. Adelene was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister & friend - her caring heart & quick wit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Adelene was born May 5, 1924 on the family farm in Irma, Alberta to Melissa & Alfred Larson, she was the 5th child of 10. Adelene grew up on the farm where she attended the local country school. In her teens she met the love of her life Glen Hockett & dated for many years before being married on June 15, 1943. Soon after their marriage Glen was enlisted in WWII and went overseas in active duty on the beach of Normandy, this left Adelene alone without her husband for 2 years. During this time she travelled to Ajax, Ontario to work in a shell factory manufacturing ammunition for the war. After her job was finished she travelled back to Calgary & got her hairdressing certificate. When Glen returned from the war they moved to Irma where they began their family of 5 children Dennis, Darlene, Brent, Mavis & Glenda. While living in Irma Adelene did hairdressing out of her home, Glen owned a trucking company & they also did a janitorial contract for the local school. Adelene belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary Irma Branch & Glen belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion. Adelene loved being a homemaker, mother, hostess to many friends & family, gardening & dancing. Adelene had a lot of spunk, friends & family can recall laughter always in her presence. In 1968 Adelene & Glen moved their family to Brownvale, Alberta where they lived for many years before moving to their farm north of Whitelaw, Alberta. Adelene worked at the Berwyn Hospital in kitchen & laundry services while Glen farmed & drove truck for local companies. Over the years Adelene & Glen were graced with 13 grandchildren & 22 great grandchildren.
