Anastasia (Nellie) Marusiak

It is with great sadness the family of Anastasia (Nellie) Marusiak, announce her passing at the Fairview Long Term Care Home, on October 28, 2024, at the age of 92 with family by her side.

Nellie was born on October 5, 1932, on the Prestville area homestead near Rycroft, AB. She attended school in Prestville, Greenway, Rycroft and Dunvegan. After helping at the family market garden at Dunvegan, she left home to join the workforce, where she worked in Evansburg, AB, Edmonton, AB, Uranium City, SK, in Ontario, Hay River, NWT, Mayo, YK at various jobs, and as clerk in different drug stores in Dawson Creek, BC, Grande Prairie, AB, plus Jasper, AB for some10 years.

Nellie loved fishing, being outdoors, going for nature walks, gardening, visiting family or friends, and touring the countryside in her 1964 Chevy Nova. She was never afraid to try new job opportunities or be adventurous in her travels. In later years when Nellie retired, she moved to Calmar, AB, where she spent time with her goddaughter Dora Keith and her family.

Nellie is survived by her brother Danny (Gail) Marusiak, and many nieces and nephews.

Nellie was predeceased by her parents Mike and Mary (Grychuk) Marusiak, her brothers and their spouses, Andy (Irene) Marusiak, Nick (Elsie) Marusiak, Raymond Marusiak, her sisters Ann (Mike) Zawerucka, Tillie (Sandy) Nescar, Sophie Crites, and Marie Elliott; as well as her nephew Tim Crites, nieces Marlene Morgan and Jodi-Lynne Marusiak.

We would like to thank the staff and doctors at the Fairview Long Term Care Home for their compassion and loving care for Nellie.

Her sense of humor will be missed by all. Until we meet again, farewell, Aunt Nell. 

A Graveside Service will be held at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, RL 13-78-5-6 Twp Road 790, Rycroft, AB on Thursday, November 7th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. - lunch to follow at the Rycroft Community Hall.
