It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anton Lundquist on July 13, 2023 in Valleyview, AB at the age of 74.
Tony was born in Athabasca, AB, on June 30, 1949, to Berger & Olga Lundquist. The family relocated to McLennan, where he spent his childhood and school years. He spoke fondly of playing hockey and building forts in the bush with his friends.
After obtaining his Heavy Duty Mechanic ticket, Tony found employment in his trade in Fort McMurray, AB, Pine Point, NWT, and Prince George, BC. Eventually, Tony settled in Edmonton, where he worked as a mechanic for the City of Edmonton until retirement.
Tony enjoyed dancing and playing guitar. Travelling was a favourite hobby, with his favourite place to revisit being the Dominican Republic.
Retirement found Tony returning to his Northern Alberta roots after meeting Elsie Bowman. Elsie’s farm North of Valleyview was a quiet and enjoyable home where he loved feeding the birds, squirrels and barn cats. A rewarding part of this move was the new role he easily stepped into….Papa Tony. He became an instant Grandfather to Jacki’s children and soon, a couple of Great-grandchildren came along. The youngsters recognized Tony’s gentle nature, always ensuring their safety and his patience was exemplified frequently, such as when repeatedly hooking up a toy tractor to a trailer dozens of times in a single play session!
Tony was predeceased by his parents, Berger & Olga, his stepmother, Stella Batdorf, and step-brother, Dale Batdorf.
Tony is survived by his partner Elsie Bowman, sisters Sharon (Jim) Wagner and Debbie Lundquist; brothers Gerald (Marthe) and Allan (Bev); stepbrother, Bruce Batdorf; stepchildren Del Hildebrand and Jacki Crocker (Craig); grandchildren, Dylan (Brittany) Crocker, Hayden Crocker, Emma Herring (Logan), Isla Seweryn, Great grandchildren, Abby and Cole Crocker.
A small gathering to celebrate Tony’s life is planned for the fall of 2023.
