It is with profound sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Benjamin Allan Basnett, a lifelong resident of Eureka River, Alberta. Benny passed away on November 9, 2023, at the age of 87.
Benny was born in Eureka River on July 14, 1936, the sixth of fifteen children born to parents Ben and Alice Basnett.
Benny married Irene McKay on August 14, 1956 in Drayton Valley. Shortly after they moved back to their farm in Eureka River, where they raised their 3 boys, and their grandkids spent many hours visiting.
Although Benny spent many years working in oilfield construction, he loved working on the farm and spending time with family.
Benny was predeceased by his parents Ben and Alice, son Doug, grandson Christopher, brothers Joe and Bruce, sisters Beryl and Betty and several extended family members.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, sons Maury and Tom and daughter-in-law Karen, grandchildren Ben (Jackie), Lance, Kristin (Dom), Darcy, Nicole (Jesse), great grandchildren Hunter, Ryker, Ava, Fallon, Chloe and Quinnley along with brothers and sisters Bertha, Bill, Beattie, Bessie, Bernice, Johnny, Bert, Beverly, Buster and Blanche, Irene’s sister Gladys and their families.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 17, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Eureka River Hall.
