Carol Holubowich Obituary

With great sadness, we would like to announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Carol Angela Holubowich (nee Landry). Carol was born May 2, 1947 and passed away on April 28, 2024 at the age of 76 years old. She was the third child born to Rene and Pauline Landry in Vegreville, Alberta. Carol has 4 brothers: Ken (Linda), Jim (Madeline), Don (Kathryn) and Bob (Sharon). She grew up in Fairview enjoying sports and learning to hold her own with her four brothers. When Carol was a young woman she went to Edmonton and received her Beautician Certificate in July of 1966.

She met her husband Tony Holubowich in the fall of 1967, and they got married a short time later on June 15, 1968. Tony and Carol lived and farmed west of Fairview from 1969 to 1979.
During that time they had three children; their first child was a daughter, Lorene Paula, who passed away in infancy in January 1970. Their son and second child, Dwayne Carl was born July 14, 1971, and their third child was daughter Toni Leigh, born December 2, 1973. In 1979 Tony and Carol moved off the farm and back into the town of Fairview, where they have lived ever since.

Tony and Carol loved to take trips throughout Alberta and BC, with the Okanagan being one of their main stops to see family and friends. They made a couple of trips out of the country, one to Mexico in 1981, and another to Maui in 2011. Carol worked at Jonson Drugs before she switched to the retail business, where she worked at the clothing stores Silhouette, Ken's Men's Wear, Silvers and Champaign on Ice, until a sudden stroke in the fall of 1989 which left her unable to work after that. The stroke led Carol and her family through many challenges and struggles throughout the next chapter of her life; affecting her short-term memory, but her long-term memory was amazing. She was the go-to person for information about anyone.

Carol was a social butterfly, she just loved to talk and visit. Carol could entertain and cook an amazing feast for many family gatherings. She had a love for many sports whether it was playing or watching, especially curling, bowling, swimming, hockey, baseball and basketball. Carol enjoyed watching westerns and old movies, and was sure to never miss a televised Curling Bonspiel. But most of all, throughout the years, Carol enjoyed watching and cheering on a large number of her family members while they participated in numerous sporting events.

Carol had much love for her brothers. She was never shy to let people know how great she thought they were and the memories she had with them. Carol is survived by her husband of 56 years, Anthony (Tony) Holubowich, her son; Dwayne (Trisha) Holubowich and two grandsons Derek and Josef, her daughter; Toni Leigh (Chad) Gillett and two granddaughters Alysson (Jordan) and Jennifer, brother in-law Len Holubowich (Sherry), sister in-law Genevieve Holubowich, her four brothers, and many special nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents; Rene and Pauline Landry, daughter; Lorene Holubowich, in-laws; Carl and Emily Holubowich, brother-in-law; Thor Holubowich, and sister-in-laws; Arlene Holubowich and Vi Landry.

Carol will be dearly missed by everyone that was a part of her life. A funeral service for Carol will be held Monday, May 6th, 2024 at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m, burial will follow at the Friedenstal Cemetery. The family would like you to join them back at the church hall for a time of fellowship and luncheon.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
