Catherine (Kay) Zavisha

March 16, 1930 ~ January 20, 2022 (age 91)


It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Mother and grandmother Catherine ( Kay) Zavisha who passed away peacefully at the age of 91.

Kay was born in Peace River on March 16 1930 to Elsie and John Dedick. She was the oldest of 10 children. Kay came to work in Hines Creek where she met and married Peter Zavisha where she lived for the rest of her life.

Kay had a passion for gardening, cooking and the great outdoors. She won numerous awards at the local Agriculture show for her vegetables she would grow and also for her baking. She always planted a large garden and she loved to pick berries from which she made pies and preserves to share with all. She loved sports of all kinds. She spent many hours in hockey rinks, baseball fields, school track and Field events watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports. Kay had a love of curling which she played for many years and enjoyed watching.  Her biggest joy was the family gatherings and campouts when she enjoyed time with the whole family.

Kay was a mother to 9 Children Richard (Heather), Grace, Vicki, Anna (Rick), Steve (Kathy), Charlie, Alvin (Sharon), Elsie (Larry ), Lauri (Cliff ) 16 Grandchildren-Lance Gillett, Jackie Burns, Nicole Wallace, Collin Burns, Fenton Burns, Stacey Svederus, Robin Basnett, Alyson Basnett, Sean Zavisha, Camille Zavisha, Andrea Johnson, Suzy Zavisha, Emily Zavisha, Colbi Zavisha, Sheena Van Gaalen, and Bryton Wagner and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

(Kay) Catherine is predeceased by husband Peter Zavisha Daughters Grace Zavisha, Victoria Zavisha and Grandchildren Ryan Zavisha Kelsey Bontrup, Madison Bjornson.

A Funeral Service for Kay will be held on February 8, 2022, at 2 pm at the Dave Shaw Memorial Hall in Hines Creek, AB.  For those that wish to join the service, you can follow on the live stream by clicking here.

Due to covid 19 restrictions REP protocols will be followed ( must have proof of vaccination or a government-approved rapid test ). If you would like to attend please contact a family member as seats are limited.
