Charlotte Ruether Obituary

With heavy hearts, we mournfully announce the passing of Charlotte Ruether.

Charlotte was born March 6th, 1953 to Andy and Edna Shmyr in Fairview. She grew up in Vanrena and later moved to Englewood.

Charlotte had many wonderful and colourful stories of her childhood memories with her siblings Jerry, Shirley, Pat, as well as with her cousins, friends, and neighbours.

She graduated from Fairview High School in 1971 and attended college in Grande Prairie, Red Deer, and the University of Alberta to obtain her Bachelor of Education and play basketball. Her first teaching position was in Nigeria and her final year of teaching was in Belize. In between, she taught mainly at St. Thomas More School in Fairview. Charlotte was a dedicated and respected teacher for 30 years and was very influential to many of her students. During all her years of teaching, she also coached basketball. Charlotte was very successful with her teams; she could shape any group of students into a winning team.

Charlotte married Bob Ruether in 1979 and they soon had four children, Kent, Kelsey, Kyla, and Kris.

Charlotte was very passionate about horses. She enjoyed her love of horse riding with friends and family on numerous occasions. Charlotte was also known for her love of fishing. She willingly shared her fishing skills and knowledge with others.

Charlotte loved living on the farm and the life it provided. She took pleasure in spending time with her family and friends, especially if it entailed a good card game.

Charlotte is survived by her two sisters, Pat (Ted) Reyda and Shirley (Ron) Doll. Her four children, Kent (Monika) and their children Kate and Koen; Kelsey (Devon) Lybbert and their children Aquila, Max, and Emmie; Kyla (Trevor) Kaczmarek and their children Arwen, Rowen, Sully, and Beau; Kris (Lacy) Ruether and their children Rhett, Aria, Emily, and Kip. She is also survived by her former husband Bob Ruether, mother-in-law Matilda Ruether, as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

Charlotte is pre-deceased by her parents Andy and Edna Shmyr and her brother Jerry Shmyr.
