Daryl Parenteau passed away after a long battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s. He spent the last two years of his life residing at Balwin Villa Care Home in Edmonton, where he passed away surrounded by loving family on November 16, 2022.
Daryl was one of the eldest sons (twin to Derwin) of Ambroise & Evelyn (Price) Parenteau. He was born first of the twins (10 minutes before Derwin) on August 13, 1947 in Berwyn, Alberta. He started school at Friedenstal Convent Boarding School and then the family moved to Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement where he continued school. He finished his later grades at Northland School Division Grouard campus.
He was a very hard worker and worked for many companies, some of which include: Parenteau Sawmill (his first job), Ken Fischer Sawmills, McMillan Construction, Caribou Construction, Jim Moffatt Construction. His last job was driving water truck and helping with the farm work for Toker Bros Trucking for 9.5 years. He loved this job and they loved having him work for them. Lorne & Bobbi Toker made the trip north with the family, camping along the way to pay their respects to him at his resting place in Keg River.
Daryl married Christine Elter on February 17, 1979. He had one step-daughter, Tiffany who was the apple of his eye.
Daryl was very kind and generous and he loved to tell a good story, especially after he had a few beer. He was a very good bowler and had many awards. He also loved a good game of Bones.
Daryl was pre-deceased by his mother, Cora Evelyn Parenteau and his step-mother, Elspeth Parenteau.
At (his) passing, he was survived by his wife Christine Parenteau, his step-daughter, Tiffany (Keith) Weninger, granddaughters Mikaela and Skye, father, Amboise Parenteau, siblings, twin Derwin Parenteau, Calvin (Bev) Parenteau, Wendy Patton, Heather (Leonard) Scott, Lawrence Parenteau, Linda (Glen) Paul, Corrine Card & Trevor Parenteau.
Daryl’s siblings laid him to rest at the Keg River Community Cemetery with his twin brother Derwin, who was buried in November 2023. Mother Evelyn is buried close by.
We buried Daryl’s ashes on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 which is the twin’s birthday. We had a very fitting tribute of stories, pictures, a prayer, his favorite music and finished off the graveside service with a beer and toast to him. In the evening, some family joined us for a potluck supper and stories back at our campsite at Carcajou corner.
Rest in Peace Daryl, you are home.
