David Erastus Miller, a long-time resident of Hines Creek, AB, passed away in the early morning of Feb. 22, 2025, in the Fairview Hospital after a difficult struggle with pneumonia.
Dave (Dad) was born to parents George and Edith Miller, on the homestead west of Hines Creek, on Oct. 30, 1937.
His early school years were spent in a one-room schoolhouse at Chester, northwest of Hines Creek, then later at Hines Creek, where he met his future wife, Coreen Thorson. They were married on Oct. 8, 1960.
They spent their early years farming and raising a family adjacent to the original homestead where he was born, then later on a new half section of land on Highway 64, where he carved and built a homesite out of the big timber.
In those years he ran grader for Alberta transportation and built a sawmill which became his full-time occupation for many years.
Dave loved to curl and compete in bonspiels with friends and family. He loved golf. Many sunny Sundays were spent picnicking and golfing at Little Prairie, which is now known as Hines Creek Golf Course. He loved horseshoes and was always ready for a game. He spent many years involved in supporting community clubs such as the golf course, curling club, Carter’s Camp, George Lake, and the End of Steel Museum.
Dave also loved to fish. He spent many years running his boat on Williston Lake reservoir and camping at the Portage Mountain Yacht Club.
Most of all he loved to volunteer as a driver, hauling his grandkids all over the country, attending their hockey, and basketball games.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Coreen, and his children, Rick (Heather) Miller, Wendy (Dale) Bartholet, Randy (Louise) Miller, Glen (Melissa) Miller, and Brenda (Brandy) Smith.
