Donald Tarzwell Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald (Don) Bryce Tarzwell.

Don was born in Guelph, Ontario and grew up around the Tarzwell family’s sawmill in Cedar Valley, Ontario.

After completing studies at the Hamilton Teachers’ College in Ontario, Don moved west, teaching in various locations in British Columbia and Alberta, before eventually landing in Whitelaw, Alberta. After a few years in Whitelaw, Don left teaching to pursue a career in the farm machinery industry, where he ultimately came to own and operate Red Line Implements in Fairview, Alberta, until the family moved to Didsbury, Alberta, in 1991. In Didsbury, Don owned and operated the local Home Hardware store.

Beyond his professional life as a businessman, Don was very community-minded and gave his time to various community organizations. This included the Fairview town council, the Alberta Liberal party, the Fairview Masonic Lodge, the Fairview Kinsmen, the Fairview Fire Department, the Fairview Ski Hill, and was a founding member of the Big Four.

It was in Fairview where Don met and married his wife, Elayne Tarzwell (nee Grimm), in 1966. They had their daughter Heather in 1969, first son Bryce in 1972, and second son Kirby Amiel in 1979. Granddaughters Emerson and Sayler were born in 2001, and grandsons Kane and Kable were born in 2003 and 2013, respectively. Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed travelling with Elayne and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Don was predeceased by his wife, Elayne, in 2022, father Kirby Maxwell Tarzwell in 1948, mother Amy Tarzwell (nee Batchelor) in 1990, brother Paul Tarzwell (Mary) in 2011, and sister Betty Ferguson (Graham) in 2011. He is survived by his daughter Heather Tarzwell, granddaughter Emerson Dubé, grandson Kane Dubé, son Bryce Tarzwell, daughter-in-law Marcia Tarzwell, granddaughter Sayler Tarzwell, grandson Kable Tarzwell, son Kirby Amiel Tarzwell, and daughter-in-law Gabrielle White.

At Don’s request, a yet-to-be-scheduled memorial will be held for him in Parkside, Saskatchewan, where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Elayne.
