With heavy hearts, we share that this old cowboy, Donald John Ponath, has ridden into the sunset for the last time on February 4th, 2022. He passed away in Fairview with family by his side. This cowboy was married to his late wife of 71 years, Hazel Ponath.
Don was born on the farm on July 21st, 1928 in Naicam, Saskatchewan and is where his cowboy life began. He continued his cowboy passion in Arizona exploring the old west. Don and Hazel spend time on the west coast over the years to be with family and friends. Don’s love for farming and cattle brought them to the Eureka River country. There they built a cattle operation and managed the herd while on the back of a horse of course. And he found more friends, he was a social butterfly with natural charisma.
He is known for his storytelling and his jokes. Even if he told the same joke over and over it was always a laugh and smile.
Dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, great-great-grandpa, brother, uncle, you will be missed and be forever in our hearts.
