Earl Lubeck

Earl Lubeck passed away peacefully on January 5 th , 2024 at Fairview, Alberta. Earl was born on October 5 th , 1920 in Blackfalds, Alberta. He was the third of Oscar and Pauline Lubeck’s eleven children. When Earl was eight the Lubeck family moved from Bentley, Alberta to homestead west of Hines Creek. Growing up on the banks of the Peace River, Earl fell in love with farming, hunting, trapping and fishing. In 1932 a log school was built near the homestead and he attended with his siblings. Since they had the largest family, the school was named the Lubeck school. After completing school, Earl remained on the homestead helping with farming and taking other jobs of many forms. He was of great help to his mother Pauline when his father Oscar passed away much too soon in 1948. In 1956 Earl married Ludwina Sieben and they lived in the Royce/Lubeck area until 1960 and then moved to Eureka River where they cleared land to make a home. They were blessed with seven children over the years. Earl farmed and worked as a Caterpillar operator during the winter months. He always made sure to take time for hunting and trapping. As much as Earl enjoyed the country life, after a heart attack when he was 80, he sold the farm and moved into Fairview. Earl took well to living in town and was always busy, but still found time for his hunting and fishing. By this time, he had met his good friend Martha, and they spent many years visiting friends and family, playing cards, dancing, and going to music festivals. Earl enjoyed many years of independent living at the Garrison Manor and just before his 101st birthday he moved to the Harvest Lodge where he enjoyed daily visits with staff and other residents as well as always having someone to play cards with. He fully enjoyed his 103 plus years.

Earl is survived by his children Delbert (Lori), Colleen, Christine (Bob), Daryl, Brent (Jody), Marcel (Karen); grandchildren Kari, Morgan, Stephanie, Sonya, Natasha, Caylan, Bobbie-Ann, and Evelyn; great grandchildren Brandon, Skylar, Jada, Phoenix, Atlas, and Lennox; siblings Fern Christiansen, Betty Wasylciw, Bernice Friedel and Howard Lubeck; and numerous nieces and nephews. Earl is predeceased by his infant son Dennis, his wife of 40 years Ludwina, his parents, six siblings (Carl, Helga, Hans, Bernard, Kenneth and Harvey), son-in-law Lenard, and several nieces and nephews.

Earl’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Fairview Legion Hall. There will be a luncheon and time of fellowship following the service.
