Elizabeth (Betty) Dechant Obituary

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the passing of Betty Dechant. Our daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece and friend, passed away unexpectedly on June 6th at her home in Edmonton, AB.

Betty was born to Paul and Katherine Dechant of Bluesky, AB in 1947. She was the fifth child of eight siblings that enjoyed life on the farm for 18 years. She graduated from St. Thomas More High School, then working at R & R Insurance for several years receiving the Courtesy Shield Award from the Local Rotary Club. She was an avid basketball and baseball player in her younger years. Betty coached a basketball team once she finished high school. She loved to play cards, crib, reading and build board puzzles to pass her time. Betty moved to Edmonton, AB to continue her insurance career and worked continuously up to her time of death as an Underwriter for an Insurance Company. Over the years, her favorite past-time was to have family visit at her home or travelling back to Fairview for Christmas and special occasions with friends and family.

Betty is survived by her family, sister Helen, children Cindy (Chris), Carmen (Andy); brother Sonny, children Cheryl (Doug), Darryl (Taunya); brother Bill (Germaine), children Anthony (Karmen), Kristianne (Jaime); brother Mike, children Nelson (Wanda); sister Marie (Dave), children Vanessa (John), Miles (Jen); sister Bernice, children Tracy, Lisa, Val (Aaron).

Great nieces and nephews; Michael (Tina), great-great nephew Caleb; Kyle and Foster; great-great niece Sydney, great-great nephews Hunter, Parker and Connor;  Chelsea, Cody and Colton; Paycen and Garin; Mason and Samantha; Jaden, Eric and Adyson; Kortney and Clayton; great- niece Elise, great-nephew Kobe, great-niece Teagan, Konner and Keenan and great-nephews Zachery, Noah.

Betty is pre-deceased by her brother Henry, niece Leisa, brother-in-law Wayne, uncle Tony, aunt Lizzie, father Paul, great-niece Sydney, mother Katie, and brother-in-law Marvin.

May she rest in eternal peace. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We remember her love, kindness, laughter and wisdom.

We wish to thank our family and friends for their well wishes and prayers during our time of loss. It was Betty’s wishes that there be no service. A small family gathering for burial will be held at a later date.
