Emil Gordon Bask, a long-time resident of Whitelaw passed away peacefully in his sleep in the Fairview Hospital on July 4, 2022, at the age of 83 yrs.
Emil was born in Walsh Alberta on July 30, 1938, the last of 6 children of Karl & Ada Bask. Emil moved with his family to the David Thompson Area in the summer of 1944. He attended school there & then in Hines Creek. He quit school in 1956 to begin work in the seismic industry.
He married Dale Turner in 1962 & they began farming north of Whitelaw, starting as mixed farming, as everyone did then, changing to cattle only, until selling land & all to their son Lyle in 2019. Emil also owned water trucks starting in 1967; first in the oil patch & then hauling drinking water to almost everyone in the area of Whitelaw to Brownvale to Hines Creek, Fairview & in between. Emil was a great welder & fixer. Frequently, neighbors would have him weld some piece of machinery during seeding, haying, or harvest. With retirement, he had more time for tinkering & he built numerous displays, do-dads & such. He received a 1958 Oldsmobile 88 (his 1st car) for his 65th birthday from Dale & he restored that, even doing most of the upholstery himself. He enjoyed visiting the car shows. He & Dale enjoyed a few years of traveling north to Yukon Territory, Northwest Territory & Alaska, south to the northern States & to British Columbia, Alberta & Saskatchewan in their 5th wheel.
Emil leaves behind to mourn; his children Lynne(Shane) &Lyle(Shauna)Bask & Lea-Ann(Ron)Winters. Grandchildren Kyle(Diana) &Cam Winters, Ali(Quinn), Haylee, Darcy, Chayton & Megan(Chris) Bask. Great grandchild Orin Dennis with another anticipated to arrive mid-Aug.
