Evelyn Bondaruk (Cherwonak) known to all as “Baba” was born April 8, 1940 in Highland Park (NW14-82-6W6) to Bill and Katie Cherwonak. Evelyn passed away peacefully on December 5th, 2025 with family by her side at the age of 85 years at the Fairview Health Complex.
Evelyn attended school in Highland Park, grades 1-9. Her joys as a child came from playing ball and riding her horse. On August 5th, 1956 she married Johnny Bondaruk and in February 1957 their first son arrived. Around the same time her parents and brothers relocated to B.C. and Evelyn and Johnny moved to the Cherwonak homestead, where she was born. There they raised 5 children, 2 sons and 3 daughters, and farmed.
Evelyn spent her years raising kids, chickens and ducks of all kinds. Gardening was a necessity, but flowers were her passion. She was a baker and cook and always loved to feed everyone. Evelyn was also an avid reader and crocheter.
Evelyn and Johnny farmed until the passing of Johnny in 1984. After which she was faced with the daunting task of getting a Driver’s license. She then went to work cleaning rooms, cooking at camp until her final employment at the Hines Creek Homesteader Lodge as a cook. Soon after she got the job she bought a home in Hines Creek and met Jerry Davidson. They spent many years as companions together travelling, camping and visiting family.
Evelyn is survived by her dear sister Ileen Dei (Charlie), daughters Arlie Bondaruk (Phil Blanchette), Brenda (Doug) Mckenzie, and Tammie (Bill) Grayson, Daughter-In-Law Denise (Randy) Bondaruk (nee Flahr), nine grandchildren Mandy Bondaruk, Robyn (Trevor) Obrigewitch, Tom (Monique) Bondaruk, Clay Bondaruk, Kortnee (Sean) Chandra, Alex (Dexter) Steffen, Haley Grayson, Chase (Steph) Mckenzie and Will Grayson, twelve great grandchildren Layne Obrigewitch, Jayce Obrigewitch, Reyna Bondaruk, Emren Bondaruk, Faron Bondaruk, Avery Gaugler, Briar Bondaruk, Rhett Bondaruk, Connor Chandra, Auston Chandra, Xander Steffen, Jaxson Steffen, numerous nieces and nephews and extended families.
