Frederick Fawcett Obituary

With great sadness we announce the passing of Frederick Floyd Fawcett on June 5, 2025, at the age of 80 years.

Fred was born on December 5, 1944, at Rimbey, Alberta. He was the middle of 5 children born to Shorty and Laurene Fawcett. Fred was raised on a farm near Bluffton AB and received all his education at Bluffton School. At the age of 17, Fred left home to seek his fortune. He went to northern Alberta and that was the beginning of a lifelong career in heavy equipment operation, primarily in the oil patch. His work took him all over northern Alberta and British Columbia, the Territories, Alaska, and out on the Arctic Ocean.

In 1972, Fred married Susan Glanfield and they began their married life at Grande Cache AB. A year later, their first son, Joe was born. Shortly after his arrival, the family moved back to Rimbey and Fred returned to the Arctic for work. A second son, Dale, was born in 1976. Two years later, the family packed up and moved to Grimshaw AB which was Fred’s work base at the time. Fred was away from home a great deal, especially in the early years, but Susan and the boys maintained the home base in Grimshaw and area.

In 1984, land was purchased in Chinook Valley East, and the family moved to the farm. Fred had a passion for horses that extended from pony chuckwagons to thoroughbred chuckwagons, and eventually to heavy horse teams. In 1992 the farm was sold and the family moved back to Grimshaw. At this time, Fred developed an interest in golf and fishing. Also at this time, grandchildren began to appear and over a 6-year period, Tulsen, Annika, and Keets were added to the family. They were truly the apples of Fred’s eye.

In 2012, Fred suffered a life-altering stroke which forced him into retirement. It was a big adjustment for someone who was always busy and active. In 2022, his health declined, and he entered a care facility. In November 2023, he moved to Grimshaw Long-Term Care where he lived until his passing. We are very grateful for the great care and the kindness he received from the Doctors and staff during his stay.

Fred was predeceased by his son Dale, his parents Glendon “Shorty” and Laurene Fawcet, his brother Glen Fawcett, and his sister Laverne Norstrom.

Fred is survived by Susan, his loving wife of almost 53 years; his son Joe (Carmen); grandkids Tulsen, Annika, and Keets Fawcett; his sisters Doris (Lavern) Galenza, Joan (Rod) Bohn; brother-in-law Harvey Norstrom; nieces and nephews and their families; his in-laws and their families; as well as many cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Grimshaw Legion on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 2:00PM. Cremation has taken place, and he will be laid to rest at Briarcliffe Cemetery.

If desired, donations may be made to Grimshaw Long-Term Care/Grimshaw Resident Council in Fred’s memory.
