Geraldine Marilyn Petrowich

It is with great sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of Geraldine Marilyn Petrowich (nee Syrnyk) on August 13, 2025, in St. Albert at the age of 84 years.

Gerri was the oldest child of Caroline and Sam Syrnyk born April 17, 1941, at the Fairview Hospital. Gerri grew up by the riverbanks on the Syrnyk family farm. She attended school at Lubick until it closed, then on to Royce and finished in Hines Creek. She took a business course in Grande Prairie and worked at dental offices in Fairview and Peace River. She married Walter Petrowich on August 16, 1962, and resided in Hines Creek until November 1, 2024, when she moved to St. Albert to be closer to her daughters Noreen and Marlene.

One of the hardest jobs in life is being a mother, and for Gerri, that did not end until her passing. She became a farmer’s wife in 1972 when Walter bought his farm, and we know the endless descriptions under that umbrella. She worked at the honey farm on the hill and later settled into work at the Post Office in Hines Creek until her retirement. Gerri and Walter were fortunate to travel and see much of the world. Whether it be flying, driving, or camping, memories and pictures were cherished.

Gerri was a member of the Royal Purple Ladies Auxiliary and the Church. She enjoyed community, curling, bowling, cards and of course Bingo!

Gerri leaves behind daughters Noreen (Bruce), Marlene (John), grandchildren Brayden (Emily), Nicole, Andrew (Kelsey), Mitchell (Shannon), great-grandchildren Olivia and Ellis. Her sister Janet, brother Nester (Sharon), as well as wonderful nieces and nephews and all their families.

She was predeceased by her parents, Caroline and Sam Syrnyk, her husband, Walter in 2021, brothers-in-law Steve, John and his wife Ruth.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Peace Valley Funeral Home in Fairview, AB. A Funeral Service will be held at the All-Saints Catholic Church in Hines Creek Friday, August 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Royce.
