The family of Graham Frederick Watkins announces his passing on May 31, 2024, at the age of 74 years. We lost a brilliant and compassionate man.
Graham was a jack of all trades and a master of many. If he took an interest in a subject, he quickly became an expert. He was an avid historian, author, violin maker, plumber, gardener, electrician, carpenter, glazier, cabinet maker, storyteller, inventor, and problem solver, with a kind and generous soul.
Graham graduated high school in 1968 and went on to complete the Operational Services Procedures Course for his Radio Operators in 1969. He worked as a flight services specialist for NAV Canada for 35.5 years. He married the love of his life in 1970. Together, Graham and Heather embarked on an adventure that took them to places like Germany, Watson Lake, Fort Good Hope, England, Ireland, Berwyn, and Peace River. Graham cherished many people, and among them were his lifelong friends, Jack Bourassa and Neil Thompson.
Graham leaves behind many people - not to mourn, but to celebrate his life and remember his love. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Heather; his daughters, Dawn Lewis and Catherine Watkins; and his son, Ian Watkins. Graham is survived by his four treasured grandchildren, Leslie, Alison, and Amanda Holmstrom, and Ethan Lewis. His sisters, Chris Morris and Sue Watkins; his niece, Julie Kang (nee Morris); and his three nephews, Bill and Bob Fisher and Bryce Morris.
Graham was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Mildred Watkins; his sister Maureen Fisher; uncle and aunt, Tom and Muriel Brown.
In keeping with Graham’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services held.
In lieu of a floral tribute, the family suggests that a donation be made in Graham’s memory to one of the many charities Graham supported such as The Mustard Seed of Edmonton and Calgary, The Sick Kids Foundation, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, or the Canadian Red Cross.
