Ivis McCarty Obituary

Ivis was born on October 7, 1928, in Calgary, AB. At approximately one month old, she was adopted by Russell and Ada McCarty as their oldest child. Eight months later, Ada gave birth to twins, so she had three children under one year of age! They lived at Rochfort Bridge, AB, for a time and then moved to a farm between Stettler and Red Willow, AB where Ivis and her siblings were raised. Mervin and June were the twins, followed by Marion, Rolland, Myrt, Rose, and Jim.

On October 17, 1950, after being sweetly serenaded by Ken McCarty during their courtship, Ken and Ivis were married at Erskine, AB. They then resided on the family farm that Ken took over from his parents, Clarence and Edna McCarty. On this farm, Ken and Ivis raised five children; Arvin, Linden, Laurel, Darrell and Bob.

In 1967, Ken and Ivis moved their family to College Heights, AB, so that the children could attend a Seventh Day Adventist school for high school, as the SDA school at Stettler only went to grade 9. After a year, a house was bought in the town of Lacombe, and the family resided there until all the kids were grown and on their own.

Eventually, Ken and Ivis sold their house in Lacombe and moved to a small home on the acreage that Darrell and Joy had bought between Lacombe and Ponoka. They lived there until they needed to move into an assisted living community. After Ken’s passing on August 14, 2013, Ivis remained in the Lacombe area until July of 2017, when she moved to Peace River. She resided at Points West Living until her passing on April 9, 2023.

Ivis had many talents and excelled at creating beautiful and intricate wedding cakes. She also was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed knitting and creating crafty things with her hands. As an artist, she did some oil paintings, but her favourite artistic thing to do was decorating fabric. This included pillows and tablecloths, as well as t-shirts. Many of her family and friends still have these beautiful but functional works of art.

Ivis is survived by her sons Arvin (Ida Lee) McCarty of Morningside, AB, Linden (Marilyn) McCarty of Ponoka, AB, Darrell (Joy) McCarty of Lacombe, AB, and daughter Laurel (Mike) Easton of Peace River, AB. Her only surviving sibling is her brother Marion McCarty of Stettler, AB. She has nine grandchildren- Talena (Jason) Winters, Katrin Hilman, Michael (Yrang) McCarty, Gary (Becky) McCarty, Stephanie (Tyler) Ferguson, Jacqui McCarty, Lee (Stephanie) McCarty, Colby (Emma) McCarty, and Jada-Lynn (Clayton) Muncaster. Many nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ivis is pre-deceased by her husband, Kenneth Stanley McCarty; son Robert aka Bob McCarty; her parents, William Russell and Ada Lucille (Niergarth) McCarty; brothers Mervin (Mary) McCarty, Rolland (Marilyn) McCarty, Jim (Marcia) McCarty, sisters June McCarty, Myrtle (Dave) Wilson, and Rose (Ken) Goddard.
