October 23, 1941 Chinook Valley, AB – April 12, 2024 Edmonton, AB
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our brother and uncle,
John Himer, on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the age of 82 years.
John’s father Joseph Himer immigrated to Canada from Hungary in 1929 followed
by his mother, Izabel Himer, and his 3 oldest siblings in 1934. They settled and
homesteaded in the Chinook Valley area of Peace River. The family soon grew to
12 children, John being the 8th child. John attended Dixonville School from grade 1 to 11.
He then went to Peace River High School to complete his grade 12. He
graduated in 1961 and started his first job at Taylor Pearson and Carson, an
automotive parts chain store. His next job was for Lorenz Construction, then on
to Alberta Power. After that, he was the bookkeeper at Herbs Welding in Peace
River from 1972 to 1977.
In August of 1977, he made a significant change to begin his career in health care.
He moved to Edmonton to attend NorQuest College for his LPN training. He
graduated in June of 1978 and would go on to work in this field for 25 years until
his retirement from the University of Alberta hospital in June 2003.
John will be mourned and dearly missed by his siblings Margaret Campbell, Jim
Himer, Bert Himer (Brigitte), Willie Himer, Lil Himer and Helen Gardner.
Brother-in-law Albert Elter and of course all his nieces and nephews. Best friends and
neighbours Garry Krause and Linda Vickery and Co-worker Carlos Schroder.
John was pre-deceased by his parents Izabel Himer 1984 and Joseph Himer 1951,
siblings Betty Miller 2014, Joe Himer 1981, Gordon Himer 2018, Mary Elter 2018
and Steve Himer 2022.
