Karen Brown Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Karen Annette Brown (Thacker) at Fairview Health Complex on November 20, 2022 at the age of 77 years old.

Karen was born March 27, 1945 to Frieda (Steinke) of Teepee Creek and Alex Thacker of Toccoa, Georgia. Karen spent most of her childhood in Fairview and most of her adult life in Georgia, where she raised her family of three boys; Darrell, Rodney, and Gary. Karen excelled at anything she set her mind to doing. Doctors praised her nursing skills when she worked as a Nursing Attendant at Villa Rica Hospital. Later, she taught herself how to design and build cabinets for the family business she operated with her husband and sons. She returned to Fairview in the 1990s where she worked at Thacker's Auto Body with her brother Jim. Karen was a hard worker who loved gardening and baking. She had a soft spot for animals and a skill for winning their affection and tending to their needs. She was very creative, as evidenced by the elaborate decorations she put up at Christmas and Halloween, many of which she made herself. Karen was devoted to her family, which grew to include many dearly loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren living in the southern United States. Even after moving back to Northern Alberta, she maintained a close and loving presence in their lives.

Karen was predeceased by her parents Frieda and Alex Thacker, brother Mitch Thacker, and nephew, Justin Thacker. She leaves to mourn her sons Darrell (Tanya), Rodney (Beth), and Gary of Georgia; grandchildren Cody, Kirk, Eric, Brian, Ryan, Miranda, Chase, Josh, Jussy, Jessica, and Logan; numerous great grandchildren; siblings Jim (Penny) of Fairview and Janice (Dennis Worobetz) of Red Deer; nieces Stephanie, Denise, and Paige.

No service will be held as per Karen's request. If people so wish, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice.

The family would like to thank Dr. Majaesic and all of the staff at the Fairview Health Complex for the thorough and compassionate care Karen received during her final stay there. Also, a thank you to Peace Valley Funeral Home for their kindness and assistance during this difficult time.
