There is a form to these things. ”We regret to inform… We lost… or We sadly announce...”
But for a man who spent so much effort staying connected and keeping in touch, we would prefer not to regret, or think of what we have lost, but to remember.
Lewis Thomas MacDougall, known by most as Tom and by us as Dad, died suddenly May 29, 2026, in Mayerthorpe, AB, just a few months shy of his 84th birthday. He was traveling to do one of his favourite activities: visit grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his surviving siblings, and not surprisingly, was in the middle of a word puzzle.
Tom was predeceased by his wife and partner of 41 years, Darleen Evelyn, and their infant son, Thomas Robert; his mother Edith Emery; brothers Gordon and Donald MacDougall; and sister Mae Lee.
Remembering him are his son and daughter-in-law Thomas Ian MacDougall and Vivianne Gayton, and his son Christopher Robert MacDougall.
Also keeping their Poppa in memory are his grandchildren Christien (Aimee), Cinnamin, Cadence, Lang (Aimeé), Aidan (Shauni) and Magdelyn; as well as great-grandchildren Ellia, Johaini, Margaux and Felix.
Tom is also remembered by his siblings Robert MacDougall (Carolyn), Ruth Setso (Nick), and Marion Quilichini (Charles); the Richardson siblings George, Doug and Brenda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He had friendships that spanned decades, and many turned into connections that felt like family. One of those friends, Joanne Bailey, held a special place in his later years.
A Celebration of Life and opportunity for remembrance will happen August 15, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hal Rogers building in Kamloops, BC. For directions or information, please contact 780-618-1526 or tmac.alberta@gmail.com
Care entrusted to Peace Valley Funeral Home of Peace River (Kristi Heck) 780-835-3306.
