Leonard “Len” John Joseph Boisvert was born January 15, 1944, in High Prairie, Alberta. His mother gave birth in the back seat of the doctor’s car on the way to the hospital.
Len grew up in Legal, Alberta with an older sister, Georgette, and a younger brother, Ronnie.
He played ball, hockey, pool and bowled but his biggest sporting joy was golf. Sadly, so many of Len’s golf partners passed before him and it always took a toll on him.
In 1968, Len went to work in Thompson, Manitoba where he worked in a nickel mine for 5 years. Thompson is where he met his future wife, Linda. Les and Lonnie were born in Thompson in 1969 and 1974 respectively, Lennie came along in 1975 in St. Albert, Alberta and Laurie completed the family in 1977 in Watrous, Saskatchewan!
Over the course of his life, Len drove gas truck, tandem truck and put on 3 million miles for Greyhound in 33 years. He retired at 65 but wasn’t finished, he went on to Maintenance at the Peace Regional Correctional Institute for 7 more years.
Len loved his family, working in the dirt with flowers and grass, building Whirly Birds, Snoopy and Red Hats Birds.
Fishing first with his boys and then later his grandchildren brought Len great happiness over the years. Whoever met Len was a friend for life, he had a wonderful sense of humor, smiled, laughed and always had a joke!
Len and Linda with their 4 children, have 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his parents, Alma and Raoul Boisvert; mother and father-in-law, Agnes and Ivan Oakes; his nieces, Kimberley McCulloch and Keitha Cyr; sister-in-law, Marcy Dreggar; brother and sister-in-law, George and Bev Oakes and his nephew, Raymond Oakes.
It was Len’s wish not to have a Memorial Service, however if friends or family so desire donations may be made to the Alberta Lung Association as expressions of sympathy.
