Lloyd Jackson Obituary

On April 22, just days after his 92 birthday, the man I fondly referred to as my Other Dad, passed quietly in his sleep of nothing more than old age, at the Long Term Care facility in Fairview, AB.

Lloyd is survived by his children from his first marriage - Carol-lyn, Melissa and Lloyd Jr. and pre-deceased by his first wife Peggy and daughter Randy; his wife Gladys and her children Twila (Richard Bessette), Kim (Ivan Jacobsen) and pre-deceased by Devine.

He and mom met in the early 70’s in Courtney, BC and eventually returned to Alberta living in Calgary, Winfield, Milk River, Vimy, and Eureka River until finally settling in Fairview.  For several years, they travelled with their 5th wheel trailer down to Arizona and would winter there.  When that got to be too much, they wintered on the island in B.C.

They were married in Calgary at a private ceremony at City Hall on a summer afternoon - August 9, 1983.  They took steaks out to BBQ later, and with marriage license in hand, decided to make their union official and legal. When they got back to the house, they BBQ’d those steaks, and then called each of us kids and gave us the happy news.

Lloyd spent most of his life and career driving truck across Canada and the US with Mom riding shotgun. When he finally retired from the road, he drove water trucks for a spell in the Fairview area but then he discovered it was way more fun to meet all his friends for coffee at the Dunvegan Inn and just BS and tell stories.  He’d get up quietly every morning around 6:00 and go coffee with the guys for a couple of hours. I’m quite sure they left none of the world’s problems unsolved.

The love between my mom and Lloyd ran deep and quiet. You just knew how much they cared for each other and I know my Mom will miss him terribly.  He was a such a good guy and quite the conversationalist. He loved talking politics with anyone who shared an opposing opinion.  He was a voracious reader and loved doing crossword puzzles too in his spare time.

Lloyd, you’ve always been there for us, you’ve been a steady rock we could count on, and we will miss you so much.

RIP, Dad, we’ll see you on the Other Side one day.

At Lloyd’s request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Fairview Long Term Care Facility (Bag 2201, 10628 110 Street, Fairview, AB T0H 1L0).
