(Ludy) Ludwina Lubeck Obituary

Ludwina (Ludy) Lubeck passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022, at Fairview, Alberta.
She was born on July 15, 1930, in Grosswerder, Saskatchewan to Solomon and Marie Sieben, and was the second born of seventeen children.
Being the second eldest, Ludy helped her mom by tending to cooking, baking, sewing, gardening and caring for the little ones. She attended the Catholic school a few miles away from the farm and was taught by nuns. The school ended at Grade 8 and as there was no local high school, Ludy went to work in the community for cousins and friends doing housework, milking cows, and watching kids.

She moved to the Peace Country after hearing about job opportunities from relatives in Grimshaw. She worked in the Grimshaw/Berwyn area doing housework, etc. and then went on to employment at the Fairview Hospital. Through her coworkers at the hospital, Ludy met Earl Lubeck and they were married on August 14, 1956.
Ludy and Earl lived in the Royce/Lubeck area until 1960 and then moved to the homestead in Eureka River where they raised seven children. Ludy lived on the farm until the fall of 1996 and then moved to Fairview, Alberta. Her last few years were spent in residence at the Harvest Lodge, where she made many new friends and enjoyed activities such as bingo, exercise classes, crafts, and music nights.

Ludy was a hard worker and enjoyed baking, sewing, cooking, gardening, reading, and travelling with the family. She was known across the Peace Country for her baking, cooking and preserving; and from her teenage years, Ludy was renowned for her baking and sewing. When her children were younger she made all their clothing and in later years she enjoyed quilt making. Ludy always had time to babysit her grandchildren (and their friends), and to bake cakes, buns, or cookies for any occasion. She also enjoyed walking - on the farm, to work at the greenhouse, to church, and getting groceries.

Ludy’s Catholic faith was important to her and she practiced it throughout her life. She ensured her children had a religious upbringing, and always lent a hand to those who needed it. Ludy always attended mass, sometimes having to walk to church or watch it on TV. She continued to attend services at the lodge until God called her home.

Ludy is survived by Earl Lubeck; children Delbert (Lori), Colleen, Christine (Bob), Daryl, Brent (Jody), Marcel (Karen); grandchildren Kari, Morgan, Stephanie, Sonya, Natasha, Caylan, Bobbie-Ann, and Evelyn; great-grandchildren Brandon, Skylar, Jada, Phoenix, Atlas, and Lennox; siblings Pete, Tillie, Barbara, Frank, Pius, Joe, Marie, Herb, Jerome, Agnes, and Marcella; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Ludy is predeceased by her infant son Dennis, parents, five siblings (Vicky, Gussie, Rose, Ben, and Kenneth), and son-in-law Lenard. As per Ludy’s request, there will be a private family service. She will be laid to rest in Friedenstal Cemetery.
