Margaret (Maggie) Rasmussen Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Margaret Ruth Rasmussen (Rowe). She passed away peacefully July 8, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Mom was born April 28, 1932 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, the second of nine children. Her early years were spent at the Fox Farm in Prince Albert. At age 14 she left home to live with her grandfather in Winnipeg Manitoba. At age 16, she returned to Prince Albert. There she met her future husband who had come from Denmark. Erik ended up immigrating to Canada and Mom and Dad were married in Uranium City in 1956. Dad was an electrician working for Grain Elevators Supplies and Services.  Mom and Doug traveled with Dad throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan wherever he was working.

When Liz and Debie were born they settled down in Calgary. There she started foster care in her home and after time It was very hard saying good-bye to these children. Her youngest son Erik Todd was born soon after she stopped foster care.

In the early 70’s Mom decided to pursue a career as a realtor which she had a great passion for.

In 1976 Mom, Erik, Liiz, Debie and Erik Todd moved to Denmark where she had to learn a new language. Mom worked in a seniors lodge until her retirement.

Margaret and Erik loved the outdoors and would take the family hiking in the mountains, sailing, boating, water skiing and snow skiing. She would take the three youngest children on trail rides with horses at the end of each summer before school would start.

Magaret and Erik loved to sail and in Denmark a sailboat was bought. Mom and Dad would compete each week in a regatta and travel the small Danish islands and to Germany each summer. Their grandchildren were very important to them and would take them sailing each summer.

Erik died in 2002, and in 2005 Mom returned to Canada and settled with her family in Fairview, Alberta where she enjoyed her family until her death at 91 years.

Mother is loved very much. The family is thinking of her and know she is watching over us.

Margaret is predeceased by her husband Erik Rasmussen, her son Erik Todd, her brothers John, Harold, Robert, Frederick, Douglas, Blair and sister Betty.

She is survived by her sister Patricia, children Douglas (Cheryl), Elizabeth (Carsten), and Deborha (Svend), grandchildren Nathan, Derek, Christine, Belinda, Charlotte, Jeannette, Christian, Jennifer, Stephen, Tracy, Erika and Steffanie. Great Grandchildren Tristan, Payton, Gage, Malte, Lukas, Gabriel, Tristan, Laura, Frederik, Emil, Cashton, Dustyn, Isabelle, Brooklyn, Scarlett, Amanda, Klara, Alberte and Karl.

Margaret’s family would like to thank Pauline, Dr. Majaesic and the staff at Fairview Hospital, who so lovingly cared for our Mother in her final days, and the staff at Peace Valley Funeral Home who lovingly took over care after Mom’s transition.
