With heavy hearts and great sadness, the family announces the passing of wife, mother and Nana; Maggie Skjonsberg on May 25 at the Grande Prairie hospital. Maggie was born September 23, 1952 and passed away at 71 after suffering a stroke.
Maggie was predeceased by her parents Norman and Jennie Rivard, and sisters Norma-Jean, and Anne. She is survived by her husband Curt, daughter Jennie (and Brad), and beloved granddaughters Shiloh and Emerson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maggie was born in Calgary but was raised all across the country and even in Germany for a time as an official “Army Brat”. Always having an adventurous spirit Maggie enjoyed many escapades in her younger years. Giving up her job at the Royal Bank in downtown Vancouver, Maggie sold her car and travelled Europe for a time. She met her life’s love in 1978 and she and Curt enjoyed years together waterskiing and riding their motorcycles in the Gull Lake area. Their daughter was born in 1983 and joined the regular adventures on the beach all summer and ice fishing in the winter.
Maggie came to Hines Creek with her husband and daughter in August of 1998 and became a memorable individual of the Royce community where she drove school bus until 2006 when she retired. Maggie’s adventurous spirit followed her all through her life, and one of her favourite places in the area is Carters Camp. Many occasions, casual meals and random afternoons and evenings were spent enjoying the peacefulness of the river and the company of family and friends.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations please be made to Carters Camp Recreational Society.
