It is with great sadness we announce that Maria Ines Nilda Tupaz passed away peacefully at the Grimshaw/Berwyn Community Health Complex where she resided for the past four years.
As young educators, her parents ventured to Davao City in Southern Philippines where she was born and christened as one of her names Nilda meaning Nabunturan, Iloilo, Davao. Her parents eventually went back to Central Philippines where she spent her young years and adult life in the Visayan region. After High School, she was enrolled in the Nursing program for two years and realized it was not her calling. She was blessed with motherhood and raised three beautiful children, who in turn gifted her with grandchildren, who continue to be her pride and joy. Her nephew and nieces in Canada called her “Nanay Da” (Nanay means mother in English).
One of her life’s journeys took her to Canada to be a caregiver and she was very good at her job. She cared for these children as if they were her own. Her family back home in the Philippines benefited as she sent her earnings to enrich their lives. In Canada, Nilda travelled to different places to seek adventure where she met many friends. Her friends are very important to her and she spent a lot of time with them as they embarked on new adventures or just going shopping. Nilda is a very good card player and she almost always beat her friends at it. She was best known for her mahjong playing skills. She will be fondly missed by her friend’s children whom she babysat in her spare time. She was kind and caring to her friends and would try to help as much as she can. Her last job at a restaurant known for its “home cooked meals” was where she felt most at home. She was known for making tasty dishes by her friends and family. The owners of the restaurant she worked at treated their staff like family, and Nilda gained many friends who cared deeply for her. Her family will be forever grateful of those friendships.
Left behind with many great memories are her three children: Renie, Nerissa and Charmaine and their families. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her siblings and their families: Grace and Roseanne, Ray and Gavin and his mom Gale, Martin, Gigi and Janel, Pedrito and Phoebe, Arpe, Alex and Jasmine, as well as her Aunts and Uncles and cousins and many extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Pedro and Rosario and several Aunts and Uncles. She leaves behind a legacy of love and adventure.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Nilda’s ashes will be brought home to the Philippines, the land of her birth, for burial at the family plot. Words could not convey how sincerely grateful Nilda’s family are to the staff at Grimshaw/Berwyn Community Health Complex. Her care has been entrusted to Peace Valley Funeral Home in Fairview, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree on Nilda’s behalf. She will be happy to watch her trees grow for future generations, and most especially if it is fruit bearing.
