Written with heavy hearts and a profound loss to our family as we announce the sudden passing of Mary Hayes at the age of 89.
Mary was born to Ivan and Gladys Hoover on August 23, 1936, in her grandparents' home by Worsley, Alberta. She grew up on a quaint little farm with her parents and sister, Janet.
Her education started at the Maryland school (proudly named after Mary Hayes and Mary Rombs) near Worsley, Alberta. She finished her high school in Fairview. Mary went to summer school in Red Deer to upgrade, then attended the University of Alberta to become a teacher.
Mary was 19 when she met Mike (the love of her life) they married two years later on July 8, 1957. Together they raised 4 children (John, Sherri, Lanny and Patty) on a beautiful farm in Eureka River.
Mary’s passion was teaching and this was evident throughout her life and with her grandchildren. Activities such as nature walks, scrapbooking what they discovered, learning to play music, horseback riding, knitting, sewing and working with cattle were some of the lessons she shared with them. She was also a farmerette, had a strong love for animals (especially horses) and nature. Together, Mike and Mary raised cattle for over 50 years.
Mary loved her family gatherings, riding horses, gymkanas & trail rides, music, quilting & sewing, cowboy poetry, reading, travelling and visiting with friends.
Mary is survived by her children John (Jolane), Sherri (Dave), Lanny, Patty (Russ). Her grandchildren Curtis, Delaney, Kristin, Brielle (Ryan), Derek (Romana), Devin (Christine), Bryce (Lisa), Chad (Lorena), Shelane, Kale (Abby). Her great-grandchildren Zander, Maddix, Aurora, Aspen, Oscar, David, Ivan, Arden Mary and Levi. Her sister Janet (Ron), nieces Jackie (Lloyd), Michelle, Pat (Vern), Marge, and nephew Jason (Allyson).
Mary is predeceased by her parents Ivan & Gladys Hoover and her husband Mike Hayes.
Mary Hayes had a deep love for life, family and friends. We ask all relatives and friends to join us for a celebration of life on Sunday, June 28th at 2:00 pm at the Eureka River Hall.
