It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, MaryAnn Watchorn, on August 4, 2025 at Special Care in Fairview surrounded by her loving family.
MaryAnn was born in Devale on July 5th, 1938, on the family homestead to Nick and Lena Bilawchuk. The family moved to Bluesky in 1952 and that is where the love story began MaryAnn and Mel were married on October 9, 1958.
MaryAnn was a proud farmer’s wife who, alongside her late husband Mel, raised four children with love, hard work and dedication. At home, MaryAnn found joy in her garden, growing vegetables and flowers, which she loved. She was an accomplished canner and baker, filling her family’s home with homemade preserves, fresh bread and sweet treats. Her kitchen and garden were places of warmth, welcome and love.
Deeply committed to her community, Mom gave generously of her time as a dedicated volunteer. She was especially active in the Fairview Curling Club and Fairview Golf Club - both as an enthusiastic participant and tireless supporter behind the scenes.
Her greatest joy was being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved nothing more than spending time with the children; laughing, playing and making great memories for all of them.
Mom and Dad travelled to many places for curling events, including Italy. They visited New Zealand, Hawaii, Mexico and often wintered in Palm Springs. Wherever they were, Mom and Dad’s happiest moments were enjoying the simple gifts of family, gathering and sharing stories that will live on in our hearts forever.
Mom will be remembered for her radiant smile, her giving heart, and her deep love for her family and community.
She is survived by her children Cheryl (Lawrence) Biegel, Dixie (Jeff) Gulay, Murray (Linda) Watchorn, Deanna (Bob) Jonson; as well as 7 cherished grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister Rosalie (Dave) Doucet, and sister-in-law Audrey Bilawchuk.
She was predeceased by her husband Mel, Feb 2021; brother Len Bilawchuk, Oct 2021; and parents Nick and Lena Bilawchuk.
A Celebration of MaryAnn's Life will be held at St. Paul's United Church in Fairview on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at 1:00PM with reception to follow at the Dunvegan Motor Inn.
