Nigel Derek Thorne

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Nigel Derek Thorne, long-time resident of Berwyn Alberta.

Nigel was born in Ilfracombe, Devon, UK to Derek and Margaret Thorne. He spent the younger years of his life working alongside his father on the family farm. In 1991 he married Erica and they were blessed with two children, Joanna and Christopher. In 1995 they followed their dream of immigrating to Canada to farm. Georgina joined the family in 1999 and in 2005 they settled to farm in Berwyn Alberta, where Nigel spent the last 17 years of his life. Nigel was an active member of the community and served on the Ag Services Board, Grimshaw Seed Cleaning Co-op, and the North Peace Gas Co-op.

He is survived by his children Joanna(Ty), Christopher, and Georgina(Brennen); sister Jean(John) Yeo; sister in law Clare(Robin) Taylor; nephew Ashley(Rachael) Yeo; nieces Lauren Yeo and Grace Taylor; granddaughter Erica Herzog and partner Petra Brummelhuis.

He was predeceased by his wife Erica Thorne and parents Derek and Margaret Thorne.

The funeral service will take place on April 23, 2022, at 2 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 253 Grimshaw, Alberta. Luncheon to follow.
