Rebecca "Beccy" Montpellier Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend Beccy Montpellier, cherished daughter, sister, mom, aunty and grandma.

Beccy was born August 26, 1954, in Fairview, Alberta.  She grew up in Eureka River, AB, the second child of Bud (Gordon) and Jessie Bean.  Beccy went to Worsley School and graduated in 1972.  Shortly after, she went to work, second cooking on the rigs.  There, she met her love, Leo Montpellier.  With the odds against them, they started their life together in Eureka River, AB in 1975; Beccy, Leo and the three kids, Gerald, Darlene and Diana.  They welcomed two of their own children into the family in 1978 and 1979, Tyler and Twila.

Beccy loved writing short stories, poetry and songs.  She learned to play guitar as a teenager and frequented many a house party singing and playing into the early morning hours.  She later learned to play bass so she could form a band with her sister Cheryl and friend Sherri.  She left us many fond memories of her time in her band, Ladies Choice.

Gardening came naturally to her and she loved to plant flowers in her flower beds.  Her yard was always neatly kept, and her garden and flowers well attended to, making her home just that much more inviting.  Farming took its toll on her flower beds over the years, but she still kept up as best she could after she was done in the field.  She still has the best red seed potato in the country.

Beccy loved spending time with her Grandchildren and enjoyed taking them down to the homestead in her "Granny Gator" for a wiener roast.  She'd take any opportunity she could to have a niece, nephew, or grandchild on the tractor or combine with her.  She revelled in the time spent teaching them the ways and telling them old stories as long as they'd listen.

Beccy and Leo farmed right up to the day she left us.  They started farming in 1986 and each year grew the farm bit by bit until they had just the right amount of land to handle themselves.  Beccy was a precision pea seeder, swather and combine operator and often teased Leo that he would be better off leaving it to her to do since they have less downtime when she did it!  He made a pretty good truck driver and coffee runner anyway!!

Beccy was an avid seamstress.  She loved making things for others: quilts, pyjamas, aprons, and dresses for many weddings, but none as important as her own.

Beccy passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on May 2, 2025 at the age of 70 years with her dear Leo by her side. She touched many lives with her gift of gab, open door and hot coffee.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but none more than her husband Leo.  Be sure to keep him company and remind him of the ways you loved her too.

Rest easy Mom.

A Celebration of Beccy's Life will be held Sunday, May 11, 2025 at 2:00pm at the Eureka River Hall, Eureka River, AB.  Everyone welcome.
