Robert Dutchak Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother, Robert Anthony Dutchak on January 2, 2024, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital. He was 26 years old.

Robert was born in Edmonton, AB on July 17, 1997; the firstborn child of Cynthia (Faithful) and Ross Dutchak. At the age of 2, he and his family moved to Whitelaw, AB where he spent his childhood years. Robert's early education took place at the Whitelaw School up until the school was closed. He then attended E.E. Oliver School in Fairview, AB and graduated from Fairview High School. Robert was about to become a big brother in 2005, but baby brother Richard, passed away at just over 24 weeks gestation, bringing great pain to the entire family. The following year, sister Melissa Dutchak was born, completing their family. Robert watched out for his baby sister and was there to take care of her when she needed help, such as the time she broke her arm while riding her bike and he was the first on the scene.

Robert had many interests and pursued them all with dedication and passion. As a youngster, he danced traditional dances at local Powwows with his parents. Later, as a YBC bowler in Fairview, he and two teammates won Provincials in Edmonton and travelled all the way to Gatineau, Quebec to compete at the national level. Robert enjoyed camping, Boy Scouts, reading, and spending time with close friends in Whitelaw and Fairview. He learned to make balloon animals and brought joy to children's hearts by making them at Powwows and community events alongside his father. As a teenager, he bought his own guitar and learned how to play it. He was a kind-hearted and loyal friend, and he cared deeply about the people and world around him. Robert entered the workforce while still in High School, working summers at Woodmere Nursery. As an adult, he enjoyed driving the rock truck and building bridges for RMC Group at the Site C Dam near Fort St. John, BC. He was good with his hands, doing woodwork and exploring various trades as part of the Introductory Trades program at the College in Fairview.

Robert is survived by his parents Cynthia and Ross Dutchak of Whitelaw, AB, sister Melissa of Whitelaw, AB, grandparents Helen and Bernard Doll of Fairview, AB, along with many aunties, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Richard, and grandparents Cecile Faithful and George Edwin Awasis.

A traditional Wake for Robert will be held Monday, January 15th, 2024 at Whitelaw Hall starting at 3:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held the next day, Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 beginning at 1:00 P.M. at Whitelaw Hall, with interment to follow at Whitelaw Cemetery, followed by a luncheon back at the hall.
