Rosalie Friesen Obituary

Rosalie Anne Friesen, August 24, 1940 -February 18, 2023

Rosalie was born in Peace River in 1940. No matter where in Alberta she lived, she would always return to her "North Country." Rosalie was a very private person. She married young and had one child, a son she named Ronald, but was commonly called Barry. Rosalie divorced her first husband, and as a single mom, Rosalie travelled around Alberta for work.

In the 1960S, she met the love of her life, Martin Friesen. They married on September 4, 1970. Martin later adopted "Barry." Martin and Rosalie lived for each other and were very infrequently apart. Rosalie and Martin had two little dogs, Mickey and Princess, and they took them everywhere. She lost her son Barry in 2006. When Rosalie lost Martin in 2011, she felt as though part of her was missing. She never really recovered from this loss. Her good friends, Katika Schaeffer, Bonnie Evens and many others, made her remaining years without Martin a little less lonely.

After suffering health issues, over the years, she had to give up the home she and Martin shared in Fairview and move into Garrison Manor and then then the Harvest Lodge in Fairview. She was often seen in her red power chair headed for A & W for coffee on nice sunny days. As her health deteriorated, she finally moved into Stone Brook in Grimshaw.

She passed away at the Grande Prairie hospital on February 18, 2023. She was pre-deceased by her mother, father, brother, and son. She is survived by step-children Duane, Darrell, Carol, and Bradley and their families. She also has a grandson, Daniel Sturby-Friesen, and his spouse and sisters, Nancy and Janet and their families.

A graveside service will occur on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Grimshaw Women's Institute Cemetery.
