Shirley May (Pratt) Shmyr

The family of Shirley Shmyr mournfully announces her passing at the Fairview Health Complex on January 24, 2025, at the age of 92 years.

She leaves to mourn: her children Gerald(Marg) Raymond(Darlene) Mildred, John(Lyn) Lynette (Gary), Vernon, Tammy (Rod), Wanda; sister Arlene (Gerrit); brother Wilson; 24 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren along with their spouses; 13 great-great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Shirley was pre-deceased by (parents) Stanley and Gwen, (brothers) Lloyd, Stan, Wendell, (sisters) Joyce and Lois, (husband) John, (son) Gordon, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Shirley was born to Stanley and Gwen Pratt in Truro NS on June 23, 1932. She was the second of 8 children. At 3 years old, the family moved to Alberta and took up a homestead. In her teen years she worked as a house cleaner and at a restaurant until she met John Swicheniuk(Dad).

She married Dad in 1951, and they bought some land in Highland Park. Gerald was born in 1952, the first of 9 kids. They had several different homes throughout the years, with most being in Fairview.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Fairview Gospel Chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital; the Mazankowski Heart Institute; or Fairview Palliative Care.
