Trevor Jones Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in the Fairview Hospital at the age of 91.

Trevor was born to Charles and Elsie (Wells) Jones in Vancouver, B.C. He grew up in Richmond on Lulu Island. Trevor graduated from Richmond High School in 1949 and from the University of British Columbia in 1954.

During his growing up years, Trevor and his brother Don developed a passion for horses. It was a natural transition for both to hire on with Guichon Cattle Company as cowboys for several years in the 1950s.

After graduation from UBC, Trevor’s career in agriculture spanned several decades and included positions as livestock buyer for Canada Packers in Edmonton and Vermilion, District Agriculturist for Alberta Agriculture in Grande Prairie, and farm manager and livestock instructor at Fairview School of Agriculture and Home Economics, known in recent history as Fairview College. Trevor also worked as an adviser for the Canadian Hereford Association and was the Regional Livestock Specialist for 12 years with Alberta Agriculture in Fairview. He also obtained a Master’s Degree in Animal Nutrition from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

Trevor married Joyce Halvorson in 1959 and raised three sons on their sheep farm east of Fairview. He was actively involved in St. Paul’s United Church in Fairview and in the 4-H club, and he was a founding member of Peace River Lamb Association. Trevor loved to write and was a voracious reader. He wrote articles for Northern Horizon, Canadian Cattleman Magazine, Farm Light and Power and Western Producer. The Western Producer rewarded him with a trip to Paris, France in 1986 to attend the Paris Agricultural Fair. He wrote many entertaining and enlightening articles for local newspapers. He and Joyce co-edited the “Heart of the Peace” history for the Town of Fairview.

He is survived by his wife Joyce, three sons Ken (Charlotte), Greg (Julliette), Graeme (Olga), five grandchildren (Kate, Emily, Grant, Nicole and Molly) and one great-granddaughter Violet. He loved his family beyond measure and was very proud of all of them.

He was pre-deceased by his parents Charlie and Elsie, and siblings Arnold, Katherine, Sheldon, Bob, Elsie, Bill and Don.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bob Irvine and the nurses at Fairview Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 10 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church in Fairview. A private burial service will take place at a later date.
