William (Bill) James Basnett

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Basnett.
Bill was born north of Gage Alberta to Ben and Alice Basnett. The second of 15 children. He attended the Eureka River school and lived his entire life in Eureka River, Alberta. Bill married Evelyn Tompkins on November 9th, 1949 in Hines Creek. They had 8 children; Rick, Lenny, Glenn, Gordon, Roberta, Cindy, Vern, and Ross. Bill and Evelyn moved to their homestead in 1955, brushing and breaking the land, making it the farm it is today. Bill worked with B.W. Basnett Construction, mainly being the truck driver hauling equipment. After B.W.Basnett Construction sold out, he worked for Basnett Brothers Construction and Basnett Truck Service.

Bill leaves to mourn, his son’s Rick(Anna), Lenny, Gord(Karen). 18 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, and 3 brothers and 6 sisters. Bill was predeceased by his wife Evelyn, his daughters Roberta, Cindy. His son’s Glenn, Vern and Ross. His parents, Ben and Alice, his grandchildren, Joey Basnett, Lonnie Basnett, Rodney Bjornson and Penny Bjornson, and great grandson Kelsey Bontrup, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

A Funeral for Bill will be held on June 6th at Eureka River Hall at 2:00 pm. A recording of the service can be found here.
